The Peace of Wild Things By Wendell BerryWhen despair for the world grows in me and I wake in the night at the least sound in fear of what my life and my children’s lives may be, I go and lie down where the wood drake rests in his beauty on the water, and the great heron feeds. I come into the peace of wild things who do not tax their lives with forethought of...[More]

As a Leader I won't tell you how many times I have heard from a parent “Johnny got bad grades (or was bad) and is grounded which includes no Scouts...”To me this seems so counter productive. I will admit I have no kids of my own and may be missing something. Anyway isn't Scouting about developing character by following the Scout Oath and Law while learning from your mistakes? There are even studies that show...[More]

Does your unit collect dues? I have heard many many different theories when it comes to dues. Wherever you are is called Here, And you must treat it as a powerful stranger, Must ask permission to know it and be known. The forest breathes. Listen. It answers, I have made this place around you. They join to have fun. Yes they join to go...[More]

I was recently watching the Disney movie “The Mighty Ducks”. There is a seen in there where Gorden Bombay the coach is talking to his soon to be ex-boss.“I remember something that my father once told me. A team is not a bunch of kids out to win, it is something you belong to, it is something you feel, it is something you have to earn,”Think about those words for a moment. Think about the...[More]

It is that time of years the boys in Cub Scouts are Graduating to the next rank. The Webelos 2 have bridged over and now it is time for the others to advance. All boys are Scouts in the Den/Pack/Troop meetings. Doesn't matter if they are Special Needs or "Normal", they are all boys having fun and learning how to be better. Special Needs boys are just like any other boys and all they want is to be accepted. That hour they are in the Den/Pack/Troop meeting they are a Cub Scout or Boy Scout having fun and learning with their peers. If you have the honor of...[More]
