7 Inspirational Scouting Minutes
The best way to wrap up a meeting and make sure everyone knows it is time to go is to close with ScoutMaster Minutes. This is an opportunity for the ScoutMaster to address the troop and leave them with something to think about. It is usually a short story with a moral, a quote, or a thought. The Eagle and the WolfThere is a great battle that rages inside me. One side is a soaring... [More]

Hi, my name is Steve O’Connor and I am a Special Needs Scouter. I am a father of 2 Eagle Scouts, both with disabilities and both have earned their Eagle on their own!! I have been involved in the Game of Scouting as a Cub Scout with my mom being my Den Leader and bridging to Boy Scouts for a few years. Came back to Scouting when my youngest son was interested in joining Cub... [More]

I recently visited my mom and sister and we took a day trip to the Northeastern part of Lake Tahoe with our dogs. It was a bit hazy due to the various wildfire’s smoke blowing into the area. Tahoe can be a tourist trap and be crowded at times. Also due to road construction, there were 5 to 10-minute delays in a few different spots. They also have issues with garbage bears. Overall we enjoyed... [More]

One of my favorite National Parks to visit is the Great Smokey Mountains. I’ve been here 3 times so far and still have a great deal left to see and do that I’ve never had a chance to do. I thought I would share some of the things I would like to go see and do at this Park, the next time I get an opportunity. I thought I would check out some of the... [More]

There is nothing like coming back to the campsite after a day of hiking or biking out in the woods and smelling dinner cooking! Food cooked over or on a campfire, outside, just seems to taste better. Scouts would go camping every single weekend if they were able to. They love being in the outdoors but as fun as camping can be, it can also be a lot of work for the troop leader. So... [More]

I have both the 100 lumens and the 200 lumens versions of this flashlight. I like both of them. They are made of metal and take a beating. The only real complaints I have is that the battery life could be better, and the 100 lumens one generally is always in my pocket and my keys over the years have scraped off a lot of the paint. The OT-200 ModelThe Ozark trail OT-200 has a hi-quality... Fred Morrison never liked the name “Frisbee,” but he stopped complaining after sales began to soar. The flying disc was Morrison’s invention, first sold by the Wham-O toy company — as the “Pluto Platter.” Wham-O changed the name the following year as a misspelled homage to the popular New England pastime of tossing around pie tins from Connecticut’s Frisbie Pie Company. When building inspector Fred Morrison sold his plastic flying disc to WHAM-O... [More]

With only your simple provisions and a rod of wood, you can make a tasty snack or meal. We thought we would share some great skits that we found on YouTube. One of the great things about Scouts going to camp outdoors is the campfire in the early evening, at the end of an eventful day. Baden Powell said it well when he said Singing and acting are excellent for training in self-expression. Also, they make for good team-work, everybody learning his part and doing it well, not for applause for himself but... [More]

Do you or someone you know have a lot of old pill bottles stashed in some cupboard or a drawer somewhere? How about those old canisters that camera film used to come in, seen any of those recently? Both of these items can be reused for helpful things that we can keep using them for, instead of throwing them away and adding to the trash problem we already have. We’re going to talk about...
