Some people think Cub Scouts is for boys only but it isn't, Cub Scouting is for the family. mothers and fathers, as they work in Cub Scouting with their boys, are able to maintain the natural relationship with them, yet they come to see their boys' play and leisure in an exciting new light. The Cub Scouting program ensures a closer boy-parent relationship.
One of these steps is the Webelos program. The Webelos program is unique in several respects. First, it includes all 10-year-olds in the pack. Second, the uniform worn by the Webelos is different from that of younger Cub Scouts in three particulars, the hat, the neckerchief, and Webelos colors.
The Webelos do not work on achievements and electives. They explore the 20 different activity badge areas. Their chief goal is the Arrow of Light Award, which signifies that they are ready to become Boy Scouts when they reach 11 years of age.
Our Webelos Den has a two-fold purpose. To prepare our Webelos for Scouting and to give them a better outlook on life.
We participate in all pack activities. We have made a promise to our boys to help them know the great outdoors by going camping and hiking a few times a year with dads and pals.
I would like to present to your parents the Webelos colors which they will pin on your right sleeve. These colors will soon be filled with your many awards. Now a new hat and neckerchief, these will tell everybody that you are an older boy getting ready for adventures in Scouting.
The word Webelos means "We will be Loyal Scouts." So go forth and trail Akela on the path of Scouting.
May the spirit of Scouting be with you always.
