Article submitted by Warren Wenner, Chair for the BSA National Special Needs Committee. One of the most frequently asked questions the BSA National Special Needs and Disabilities Committee receives from district executives, leaders, and parents is: where do I go for help with advancement for my Scout with special needs? Well, the best answer may be right down the street at the Scout’s school. In fact, meeting with the Scout’s special education or reading specialist teacher at school could be the best answer. These teachers work daily with students who have disabilities and know the challenges and needs of these ......

For us as Scout Ambassadors, after training leaders, the next obvious step is helping new troops plan an adventure-packed program. One of the key elements of successful troops, shown in research conducted by Eli Lilly in Indianapolis, Indiana, is that strong troops all have a good annual program planned a year in advance by the youth leaders of the ......

Yesterday I picked up over 1, 000 neckerchiefs that are scanned and ready to list. Turns out one of my old employees' lives and works in Charlotte now.  So sometimes she will take a batch of stuff off my hands and process it for listing.  This stash includes about every neckerchief I had in my warehouse from OA to camps and even troop neckerchiefs.  These auctions will start next week! This is Unsung Heroes, a Bryan on Scouting blog series celebrating under-reported acts of Scouting heroism. These are stories that don’t make national headlines — but should. That’s doubly true in this world that can always use more good news. Read the latest story below, and find instructions for sharing your own Unsung Heroes story at the end of the post. It was a normal workday at the Los Angeles law firm of Gibson, Dunn Crutcher when attorney Jesse Cripps heard a coworker yelling for help. Cripps, an Eagle Scout, raced down the hallway toward the woman who had shouted. ......

As Scouts, we’re always striving to leave the world a little better than we found it. Over the last one hundred years, the issues we’ve tackled have evolved and changed, but our young people’s drive to make a positive impact remains constant. Participating in our A Million Hands program is one way Scouts can take action and achieve their Community Impact Staged Activity Badge. It provides ready-made activities and program ideas centered on six national themes, chosen by our young people themselves. Learn more here: http://scouts.org.uk/community...

We've got a small scout pack, and nobody has participated in SFF before. Today, distributing stickers to all the houses in a reasonable amount of time was pretty challenging. I'm hoping that you guys can suggest some useful strategies for next week when we pick up donations. For sticker posting, we broke our area into regions with 2-3 scouts walking each region (with parents). For food pick up, we'll obviously need cars to carry the donations as we go, but I'm wondering if there are any best practices like driving scouts around and having them go out of the car ......
