High Adventures Tours in New Mexico

By: Posted On: 2013-02-09

This week we look at our most popular multi night trips in New Mexico.  These tours include the best of everything in the Land of Enchantment!

Modified High Adventure

This tour kicks off with a pick up at the Albuquerque International Airport and transport to the Albuquerque Marriott Pyramid hotel where there’s lots to do (pool, two hot tubs, gift shop, computer center, fitness center, game room, ping pong, basketball, board games). Spend the afternoon poolside or in the game room or play board games, ping-pong or basketball with your crew and other Scouts from all over the country---this is some Scout trip!

If you arrive early enough, grab some lunch on your own at any number of popular restaurants within easy walking distance. Pick up those last minute items you need at Target, Lowes, Walgreens, and others, all of which are within easy walking distance of the hotel.

The dinner at the hotel is good food and lots of it! It’s an “all you can eat” buffet with soft serve ice cream for dessert! That night, check out the Blue Sky TV channel in your room for movies.

Wake up to a hot, delicious, all you can eat, breakfast at the hotel-waffles, eggs, sausage, bacon, cereal, juice, fresh fruit and more! Rendezvous with your tour guide at the hotel. Your tour guide will be with you all day to give you an in-depth look at the history, culture, wonders and beauty of New Mexico.

You will start with a walking tour of Santa Fe, the second oldest city in the United States.  See the historic State Capitol, Santa Fe Plaza, and the Santa Fe Trail Journeys End Memorial. Next you will experience Native American culture first hand as you climb up the ancient trails of Puye Cliffs and visit the 900 year-old ruins at the top of the mesa.  Led by a Native American guide, this is a truly unique experience! You will have a box lunch at Puye on the porch of the historic Harvey House.

Next, hold on tight for whitewater rafting on the “Racecourse” section of the Rio Grande River! Conditions permitting, scouts will raft in rubber “fun yaks”. After rafting it’s time for snacks and cold drinks for all! You will enjoy dinner at an all you can eat American buffet and then return to hotel in Albuquerque where the fun doesn’t stop.

The next morning wake up to a hot, delicious, all you can eat, full breakfast buffet at the hotel-waffles, eggs, sausage, bacon, cereal, juice, fresh fruit and more! Then it’s a 6:30 AM departure on the Blue Sky Express Shuttle with arrival at Philmont by 10:00 AM.

High Adventure

You have a mid-morning rendezvous with your Blue Sky Adventures professional tour guide at the Albuquerque International airport. We will be waiting for you when you walk off the plane and on your way within 45 minutes of arrival with your custom Blue Sky Adventures water bottle in hand and filled with chilled water! Your tour guide will be with you all day to make sure everything is fun and happens as it is supposed to and will bring New Mexico “alive” with stories of local legends, history and culture. Your tour guide is the difference maker compared to anything you can do yourself!

Enjoy lunch at Blake’s Lotta’ Burger, a tasty New Mexico tradition. Try the green Chile cheeseburger with a milkshake-it’s a local favorite! Then make a visit to the National Atomic Museum to learn about the Manhattan Project and see replicas of the bombs that ended World War II. See the plane that dropped the bomb and climb into the control tower of the first nuclear submarine. This is a cool place for sure!! Next we make a visit to historic Old Town Albuquerque, established in 1706 and the heart of the Wild West in its day. See Native American artists at work, walk through the historic Plaza, and poke around in the local stores and historic and cultural sites. This is a real taste of the Southwest!

Next enjoy a trip to the top of Sandia Peak; a breath taking ride on the world’s longest aerial cable car to the 11,000 foot mountain peak. At the summit of Sandia Peak, we will hike about a mile along the mountain ridge to the “Stone Hut” built in the 1930’s by the Civilian Conservation Corps. This is a fantastic hike with unparalleled vistas of the Rio Grande Valley and it provides a great way to quickly acclimate to the effects of higher elevations. What a great way to help get ready for the rigors of your Philmont trek!
