High Adventure Tours in Colorado

By: Posted On: 2013-02-01

Now that we have looked at all the lower budget options in Colorado, lets take a look at our top of the line High Adventure itineraries.

Modified High Adventure

Red Rocks, Garden of Gods, and Whitewater Rafting!

This tour requires an arrival in Denver by 10:00 AM where you will rendezvous with your Blue Sky Adventures tour guide. We will be waiting for you and will get you underway as soon as possible.  With your Blue Sky Adventures water bottle in hand, it’s time to get acclimated! Your guide will be with you all day to make sure everything is fun and happens as planned.  The guide will bring Colorado “alive” with stories of local legends, history and culture. This is the difference maker on a Blue Sky Adventure. Our first stop is an all you can eat lunch buffet…A Scout is HUNGRY!

After lunch, we head to Morrison, Colorado just west of Denver to visit the world famous Red Rocks Park and Amphitheater. If you think Red Rocks Park is just a beautiful place to see a concert, think again! Around you are 868 acres of deer, fossils, pines and prairie, geological wonders and spectacular vistas. At 6,450 feet above sea level, Red Rocks Park is a terrific place to begin your acclimation! We will hike the 1.5 loop trail and explore the Red Rocks Amphitheater.  This is a geological phenomenon! It is the only naturally occurring, acoustically perfect amphitheater in the world. From Sting and The Beatles, to opera stars and U2, every artist aspires to play on this magical, spiritual and emotional stage.

We will end the day by checking in at the Alpine Village Apartments located on the spectacular campus of the University of Colorado at Colorado Springs.  Every person gets their own bedroom inside of a 4-bedroom suite that shares a common room and 2 bathrooms. That night, we have an all you can eat dinner at “The Lodge” dining facility on the UCCS main campus. Enjoy the pool, hot tub, basketball courts, and climbing wall at the University Recreation Center! What a day!

The next day wake up to a hot, all you can eat, full breakfast buffet-pancakes, eggs, sausage, fresh fruit and more! After breakfast, you will experience one of nature’s true wonders, the Garden of the Gods.  See the exciting 15 minute film at the Garden of the Gods Visitor Center. We will then do a guided hike from Kissing Camels to Balanced Rock! See Gateway Rock, the Central Garden, Scotsman Rock, Siamese Twins, and more!!  After Garden of the Gods, you will have lunch and a visit to the charming town of Manitou Springs.  After you eat, enjoy 30-45 minutes of free time to explore the shops, mineral springs, and tourist attractions in this historic western town.

Next, hold on tight for whitewater rafting on the “Royal Gorge” section of the Arkansas River, the premier whitewater rafting experience in the southwest. It doesn’t get any better then this! You will have a Western style cookout dinner hosted by the catering department at our rafting outfitter. Pictures, laughs, and great food…What a way to end a fantastic day! Finally, return to UCCS Campus where the fun doesn’t stop- another evening spent enjoying the pool, hot tub, basketball courts, and climbing wall at the University Recreation Center! What a day!

On your final day, wake up to a hot, all you can eat, full breakfast buffet-pancakes, eggs, sausage, fresh fruit and more! Finally, all aboard the Blue Sky Express! You will be at Philmont by 10:00 AM.

High Adventure

Red Rocks, AF Academy, Garden of Gods, Pike’s Peak, and Whitewater Rafting!

This is our most popular tour!  The first day is nearly identical to what we described above (lunch, Red Rocks Hike), but we also have time to do a guided tour of the United States Air Force Academy. Here you will see the most visited site in Colorado, the Academy Chapel, and learn about the significance of its design. You will also get to walk beneath the wings of the only mounted B-52 bomber in the world!

We will end the day by checking in at the Alpine Village Apartments located on the spectacular campus of the University of Colorado at Colorado Springs.  Every person gets their own bedroom inside of a 4-bedroom suite that shares a common room and 2 bathrooms. All you can eat dinner at “The Lodge” dining facility on the UCCS main campus. Enjoy the pool, hot tub, basketball courts, and climbing wall at the University Recreation Center! What a day!

Next morning, wake up to a hot, all you can eat, full breakfast buffet at UCCS-pancakes, eggs, sausage, fresh fruit and more! After breakfast we will do a quick driving tour of the Garden of The Gods and then it is “All Aboard” the Cog Railway! Relax and watch in wonder as you climb to 14,115 feet above sea level to the summit of America’s favorite mountain – Pikes Peak. Your trip will take you through four life zones from lush high plains to fragile alpine tundra. You’ll pass cascading streams as you wind through a steep canyon of gigantic boulders and tall pines towards your destination well above tree line. It’s possible to see four states, the snow-covered peaks of the Continental Divide, the cities of Denver, Manitou Springs, Colorado Springs and the historic gold camps of Cripple Creek and Victor. You’ll enjoy fantastic rock formations, spectacular vistas and breathtaking cliffs all from the comfort and safety of the world’s highest cog train! At the summit, participate in an optional 20 minute hike on the Barr Trail at over 14,000 feet.  Not only will you see tremendous views, but this is also a great way to get acclimated for Philmont!

Next, hold on tight for whitewater rafting on the “Royal Gorge” section of the Arkansas River, the premier whitewater rafting experience in the southwest. It doesn’t get any better than this! You will have a Western style cookout dinner hosted by the catering department our rafting outfitter. Pictures, laughs, and great food…What a way to end a fantastic day! On your final day, wake up to a hot, all you can eat, full breakfast buffet-pancakes, eggs, sausage, fresh fruit and more! Finally, all aboard the Blue Sky Express! You will be at Philmont by 10:00 AM.
