Deluxe Tours in Colorado

By: Posted On: 2013-01-18

Last week, we looked at our lower priced tour options with our Transportation only and No Frills packages. This week let’s take a look at our Deluxe Adventures in Colorado. Our Deluxe tours are 1 and 2 night options that fall in the middle of the price range.

Deluxe Adventure

The first option is our 1 night Deluxe Adventure. This tour requires an arrival in Denver by 10:00 AM where you will rendezvous with your Blue Sky Adventures tour guide. We will be waiting for you and will get you underway as soon as possible.  With your Blue Sky Adventures water bottle in hand, it’s time to get acclimated! Your guide will be with you all day to make sure everything is fun and happens as planned.  The guide will bring Colorado “alive” with stories of local legends, history and culture. This is the difference maker on a Blue Sky Adventure and is a standard feature on all of our Deluxe and High Adventure packages.

Our first stop will be at an all you can eat lunch buffet…A Scout is HUNGRY! After lunch, we head to Morrison, Colorado just west of Denver to visit the world famous Red Rocks Park and Amphitheater. If you think Red Rocks Park is just a beautiful place to see a concert, think again! Around you are 868 acres of deer, fossils, pines and prairie, geological wonders and spectacular vistas. At 6,450 feet above sea level, Red Rocks Park is a terrific place to begin your acclimation! We will hike the 1.5 loop trail and explore the Red Rocks Amphitheater.  This is a geological phenomenon - the only naturally occurring, acoustically perfect amphitheater in the world. From Sting and The Beatles, to opera stars and U2, every artist aspires to play on this magical, spiritual and emotional stage.

Next you will have a guided tour of the United States Air Force Academy. See one of the most visited sites in the United States, the Academy Chapel, and learn about the significance of its design. You will get to walk beneath the only mounted B-52 bomber in the world where it will be time for a break with snacks and cold drinks for all!

Next, check in at the Alpine Village Apartments located on the spectacular campus of the University of Colorado at Colorado Springs.  Every person gets their own bedroom inside of a 4-bedroom suite that shares a common room and 2 bathrooms. At night, you will have an all you can eat dinner at “The Lodge” dining facility on the UCCS main campus. After dinner, spend the evening enjoying the pool, hot tub, basketball courts, and climbing wall at the University Recreation Center! What a day! The next day wake up to a hot, all you can eat, full breakfast buffet-pancakes, eggs, sausage, fresh fruit and more! Eat fast and then it’s all aboard the Blue Sky Express for a 6:30 AM departure.  You will be at Philmont by 10:00 AM!

Deluxe Plus Adventure

The second option is our 2 night Deluxe Plus Adventure. If you want a less hectic first day and an added night of acclimation, this is the package for you.  This itinerary includes either the tour of Red Rocks or the visit to the Air Force Academy; both of which we described above.  This schedule gives you a little more downtime on day 1 and allows us to accommodate flights that arrive later in the day.  Rest assured, the itinerary is still action packed!

On day 2, wake up to a hot, all you can eat, full breakfast buffet-pancakes, eggs, sausage, fresh fruit and more! Fuel up as we are about to experience one of nature’s true wonders, the Garden of the Gods.  See the exciting 15-minute film at the Garden of the Gods Visitor Center and then we will do a guided hike from Kissing Camels to Balanced Rock! See Gateway Rock, the Central Garden, Scotsman Rock, Siamese Twins, and more!! After Garden of the Gods, you will have a nice box lunch and a visit to the charming town of Manitou Springs.  After you eat, enjoy 45 minutes of free time to explore the shops, mineral springs, and tourist attractions in this historic western town.

Then it’s all aboard the Cog Railway! Relax and watch in wonder as you climb to 14,115 feet above sea level to the summit of America’s favorite mountain – Pikes Peak. Your trip will take you through four life zones from lush high plains to fragile alpine tundra. You’ll pass cascading streams as you wind through a steep canyon of gigantic boulders and tall pines towards your destination well above tree line. It’s possible to see four states, the snow-covered peaks of the Continental Divide, the cities of Denver, Manitou Springs, Colorado Springs and the historic gold camps of Cripple Creek and Victor. You’ll enjoy fantastic rock formations, spectacular vistas and breathtaking cliffs all from the comfort and safety of the world’s highest cog train! At the summit, participate in an optional 20 minute hike on the Barr Trail at over 14,000 feet.  Not only will you see tremendous views, but this is a great way to help your body get acclimated for Philmont!

After the descent, enjoy a delicious dinner in Manitou.  Pizza, pasta, salad, garlic bread, and cookies! Once back at UCCS enjoy another evening spent enjoying the pool, hot tub, basketball courts, and climbing wall at the University Recreation Center! What a day! Rest up as we leave early the next morning on the Blue Sky Express to Philmont.

Now don’t those tours sound like fun! Next week, we will look at the Deluxe Adventures that we offer in New Mexico, The Land of Enchantment!  Stay tuned! Remember to go to www.blueskyadventures.net if you have any questions.
