The Summit Bechtel Reserve

By: Posted On: 2012-11-27

The Summit, the Boy Scouts of America's next high adventure base and the permanent home
of the National Scout Jamboree.
From their youtube page on this video:
Surrounded by world class white water rafting, kayaking, rock climbing, mountain
biking and more, The Summit Bechtel Reserve is nestled on more than 10,000 acres
adjacent to the New River Gorge, West Virginia. This facility will be the newest High
Adventure™ Base as well as the permanent home to Scouting's National Jamboree.
The Summit will not only host the National Jamboree and be Scouting's fourth High
Adventure Base™, but will also serve as a summer camp and year-round training
facility for tomorrow's leaders. Venturers will also find a new home in the hills of West
Virginia and will be invited to join the biggest party in Scouting at the 2013 Jamboree.
How could you not be excited about the next 100 years of Scouting?
There is no better place to host the Boy Scouts of America than West Virginia's New
River Gorge. Within quick driving distance of multiple airports and urban areas, The
Summit will combine travel convenience with real action and adventure. Scouts and
Scouters from across the world will have easy access to the wild and wonderful
wilderness in West Virginia.
So what is there to do at The Summit? In short, plenty.
Scouts and Scouters will have their choice between whitewater rafting and kayaking,
hiking, rock climbing, mountain biking, zip line canopy tours and camping. There will
also be winter sports, community service opportunities and plenty of chances for rank
advancement. Those are just the activities that are sure to be there too :)
Even though all of those things sound great, there is still a lot of room for improvement.
We're always looking to include your thoughts and ideas in the planning process

your ideal adventure will be waiting in southern West Virginia.
