Finding the Perfect Eagle Scout Service Project

By: Posted On: 2012-04-12

Do your Life Scouts ever struggle to come up with service project ideas for the Eagle Scout rank? Do you ever struggle to get them to think creatively? If so, you’ll want to check out http://www.myprojectfinder.com/.

Created by Scouter David Harkins (who’s both a volunteer leader and associate director of business development for BSA Supply Group), the site stimulates Scouts’ creativity using a decision-tree model. Scouts answer a few simple questions (e.g., “Do you prefer to be indoors or do you prefer to be outdoors?), and the site generates a short list of projects that might be a good fit.

Harkins emphasizes on the site that the suggested projects are just a starting point (and he encourages Scouters to submit additional ideas). But even seeing a limited number of project ideas could well be the spark your Scouts need to come up with projects they’ll be proud to call their own.
