1. Turn up for pack meetings.
2. Turn up with a new idea.
3. Turn up with determination.
Without the help of every person in our pack, our garden will turn to weeds. So help us build the background, work the soil, pull the weeds, and spread the sunshine so that in the garden of Pack we can say; "We have done our best."
DENNER #1: (lights candle) What did it feel like, astronaut, as you flew into outer space? Did you mind being cooped up in such a tiny place?
DENNER #2: (lights candle) Did the stars have points? Did the clouds race by? Did they bump into you as you sailed?
DENNER 3: (lights candle) Did you feel like a kite when the string breaks away and it loses its balancing tail?
DENNER #4: (lights candle) Could you hear the wind as it whistled by? Is the world really big and round?
DENNER #5: (lights candle) Were you scared, astronaut? Were you happy and glad when you walked again on the ground?
CUBMASTER: (lights candle) Today these questions can be answered from first-hand experience only by a small handful of men and women. Think for a second, if you are prepared and willing to take the challenge by 2030 AD, you could be a member of that group, a larger group by then, but still a very select group.
He is a person who is going to carry on what you have started.
He is to sit right where you are sitting and attend, when you are gone, to those things you think are so important.
You may adopt all the policies you please, but how they will be carried out depends on him.
Even if you have leagues and treaties, he will have to manage them.
He will assume control of our cities, states, and nation.
He is going to move in and take over your churches, schools, universities, and nation.
All your work is going to be judged and praised or condemned by him.
Your reputation and your future are in his hands.
All your work is for him; and the fate of the nation and of humanity lies in his hands.
It is well that we pay him some attention.

Once upon a time, two brothers left the farm to move to a city to look for work. Just outside of the city, the first brother met an old man and asked him, “What are the people like in this city?” The Old man replied, 'Well, how were they where you come from?" “They are all grumpy and cross," replied the brother. " That's why I decided to leave." "You'll find the people here exactly the same," said the old man as he walked on down the road.
A little while later, the old man met the second brother. He too asked, “What are the people like in this city? The Old man replied, “'Well, how were they where you come from? "They were very nice. They always smiled," replied the brother. "That's why it was so hard for me to leave." “You'11 find the people here exactly the same," said the old man as he smiled and joined the second brother on his way. Remember, we reap what we sow.
A piece of tagboard is cut in the shape of a pocket and covered with blue felt, including a pocket flap and button. The badges which are attached are available at the Scout office (#4648 ), or could easily be made out of cardboard.
They are attached with masking tape. The arrows are made of cardboard and covered with gold and gray felt.
This is a pocket - a very plain pocket - not very interesting, and it could belong to anyone. But wait, let's give this pocket to a Cub Scout.
(Cub Scout places Bobcat badge on pocket. ) Right away, our pocket is turning into something with meaning. It represents a sense of belonging and will soon bring our Cub Scout knowledge, skill, enjoyment and good fellowship.
(Cub Scout places Wolf & arrows on pocket. ) Before too long our pocket turns into something more special. It proudly displays the first symbol of new-found knowledge of the flag, of keeping strong, of tools, of knots, of safety, of books and reading. It means our Cub Scout has mastered feats of skill and has shown his willingness to help in his home and take part in family fun.
(Cub Scout places Bear & Arrows on pocket. ) Our pocket now has increased its meaning even more. It shows our Cub Scout is completing increasingly difficult achievements which show he is growing in knowledge and skill.
(Cub Scout places Webelos and Arrow of light on pocket. ) Our pocket is very special now. It is very rich in new possibilities. It opens up a whole new world of Challenges.
Cub Scouting has taken our plain pocket and turned it into a pocketful of adventure, fun and excitement.
Oh Lord, that I will do my best
I come to thee in prayer.
Help me to help others every day
And teach me to be square.
To honor Mother, Father
and obey the Cub Laws, too.
And this I ask, that I may be
a loyal Cub Scout true.
O, Heavenly Father, we ask for your blessing
For loved ones and friends that are near.
We thank you for food and for love and for life
And the spirit of Scouting that's here.
We thank you for leaders who care about boys,
Who give us their time - that's better than toys!
We thank you for dads who help us learn right,
For moms who sew on our badges at night.
For all this, thank you, dear Lord, up above,
For being in Scouting is something we love!
A diamond in the rough is a diamond sure enough,
And before it ever sparkled it was made of diamond stuff.
But someone had to find it or it never would be found,
And someone had to grind it our it never would be ground.
But it's found, and when it's ground And when its burnished bright,
That diamond's everlastingly giving out its light.
Oh, leaders and parents, of our young folk! Don't say you've done enough. It may be that your little one is a diamond in the rough.
MATERIALS: A large American flag held by Scout, A small piece of light cloth on a stick held by Scout.
LEADER: (points to small cloth on stick) A flag is much more than just a light cloth floating in the breeze.
A flag is an sovereign symbol of a nation's unity, its hopes, achievements, glory and high resolve.
The flag of the United States is such a symbol. A symbol of freedoms bravely fought for the hardly won. A symbol of protection under the constitution of the rights and privileges of all Americans. It symbolizes the promises of fulfillment of all their hopes, principles and ideals. It is also a symbol of the duty each of its citizens has to serve in times of need, to speak out for what each considers right and to help correct under the law that which is honestly believed to be wrong. Throughout the ages, man has developed character, courage and strength in devotion to the symbols he believed in. That is the heritage symbolized by our flag.
