A Lesson in Life

21st Century humans are evolving into a people who take life for granted. Go to your local supercenter at any given time and watch the kids throwing fits because they don’t get the latest and greatest “whats-it” if you need proof. Most of us have grown so accustomed to the homeless people on the corner that we don’t even see them anymore – not even the kids. I would like to share the following letter with you, with the hope you will share it with others. Maybe we can all take something from this man’s sage words of wisdom and apply it to our own lives.
Last night my Troop did a dinner at our church for homeless people. One of the guests there wrote a letter to the Scouts thanking them for their assistance. He wrote it on one of the placemats that we had out on the table. I read it to the Scouts while they were eating their dinner afterwards, but I thought I would pass it along to all of you. Here it is:
*Thank you for serving today!*
*There are hundreds of reasons why people are unemployed, homeless, and otherwise disenfranchised, but the top three reasons are:*
*1. Lack of education*
*2. Alcohol and drugs, (and beer and cigarettes ARE drugs).*
*3. Alienation from family and friends.*
*So you won’t be here in the future on the receiving end of all this good hospitality, PLEASE….*
*1. Stay in school.*
*2. Stay away from alcohol and drugs.*
*3. Stay in close contact with your family. That irritating brother/sister/mother/father does get smarter as you get older.
*Thank you again!!*

Last night we served 240 people dinner, of that a couple dozen were kids. Everyone was very thankful for the food, and for the Scouts’ help in serving it. I think was a great experience for the Scouts to see the kids who were homeless, and who were very happy for any food they got. A good lesson about being thankful for what you have.
