Rope Box – Ten Knots Every Scout Should Know

This post is going to talk about the 10 knots every Scout should know. You will see the knot in the photo, reference its name and read what that knot is used for. This post is more about understanding the uses of the knot then how to tie it. I find learning to tie a knot is more a hands on kind of thing. 1.Overhand - This is probably a pretty good place to begin... [More]

  Sierra Cup

Sierra cups are a amazing tool for light weight camping. As you can see in the photo they are really just a metal cup. However in backpacking it serves as your cup, bowl and plate. They are light weight and easy to clean. They are also pretty durable so they will take the abuse the boys dish out. The two shown in this picture are, I would venture to guess, around 20 years old. There... [More]

Jamboree On The Internet & Air

Jamboree On The Internet is also known as JOTI, which is different then JOTA (Jamboree on the air). JOTA takes place using ham radios while JOTI is mostly done using a computer and a chat room. The ultimate goal of both is to meet other Scouts and Scouters from around the world. Learn about what Scouting is like where they are, their culture and the kind of things they do there.JOTI and JOTA take place... [More]

Rope Box – Stakes and Doodads

There is actually a fair amount of gadgets I carry for pioneering. A few notes of caution, the stakes shown are normal tent stakes are too small for securing large pioneering projects. I do have larger rebar stakes, but most often tend to just secure bridges to local trees, rocks, etc. The orange stakes are actually sand stakes for a tent, when setting up in soft soil. Also the pulley, hooks, carabineers are not rated... [More]

What the uniform means to me

The uniform is an important part of the Scouting experience and not in the military sense. It makes us stand out and show off the progress the boys have made during their Scouting experience. It also teaches the boys to take care of their uniform and how to wear it correctly, skills they will apply when they are an adult and have to take care of and wear appropriate cloths for different occasions.Since I have...   Rope Box – What’s In The Box

Including of course synthetic rope, natural rope, string, stakes, a pulley, s hooks, carabineers, gloves, etc.In this one box is enough material to lash together... [More]
