GAMES/05-11

TURKEY SHOOT

Materials Needed:
marshmallow shooter for each player
miniature marshmallows (as many as you want to clean up)
a turkey target (a paper fold-out table centerpiece works well)
rope or string for hanging the target

Directions for making marshmallow shooters:
Materials Needed:
1 9-inch piece of 1/2 inch PVC pipe
1 4-inch piece of 1/2 inch PVC pipe
3 2 1/4 inch pieces of 1/2 inch PVC pipe
Fittings: 1 T, 2 elbows, 1 end cap
Assemble as shown in the drawing

How to Play:
Hang the turkey target from a basketball standard or something similar. Establish a line
to shoot from depending on the size of the players. It is well to set a few rules such as no
shooting at each other, etc.. On the word “go” -- get out of the way. We find it helpful to give
each player a plastic bag with a given number of marshmallows already counted into it.

PRAIRIE TAG

Materials Needed: none
How to Play:
Mark off a rectangular playing area to be the prairie. A good idea is to have everyone
hold hands and spread out across the gym. This will determine the width of the prairie. Make it
as long as you desire. The Pioneers line up at one end; the Indian Chief stands in the middle and
yells, “I am the Chief. Let's see if you can cross my prairie."
The Pioneers try to run or sneak across the prairie as the Chief tries to tag them. If
tagged, the Pioneers become Sagebrush. Keeping one foot planted, the Sagebrush try to reach out
and tag the other Pioneers running by, thus turning those Pioneers into Sagebrush also.
Once the Pioneers reach the other side of the prairie, the Chief repeats, “I am the Chief.
Let's see if you can cross my prairie.” The crossing contest starts again. The Sagebrush,
however, must remain as Sagebrush. The game continues until all the Pioneers become
Sagebrush. The last Pioneer tagged becomes the new Chief.
