The Insanescouter April 2012

Please share this newsletter with your Scouting friends.

InsaneScouter Information

Howdy Scouters! Can you believe its time for another issue of the InsaneScouter newsletter? All is going here in Las Vegas, including the weather. Summer is just around the corner, but boy is it getting hot here, almost hitting 100 degrees already.

Over the last week a massive number of updates have been happening. A few things you might notice include: updates to the home page, changed how top pages works, adding top pages to the right side, adding scouting news item to the right side, cleaned up categories pages, cleaned up news page, created a new and improved way to get resources “all on one page”, and removed page ratings. If you stumble across any problems please let me know.

Do you have a few minutes to spare? Would you like to help tens of thousands of Scouters world wide? I am looking for people to help me go through content category by category. The object is to make sure the content is in the right category, that it is not obsolete, maybe it should be removed because it relates to the Order of Arrow, etc. You may also notice spelling or other such problems that need to be fixed. If you can help, please let me know.

I have been thinking about creating a “InsaneScouter Honor Wall”. The idea would be for all of you to submit Scouts, Scouters, parents, sponsors, businesses, etc that have a positive impact on the program. Then InsaneScouter will choose one of them to honor each month. If you would know someone who should be honored please send me an email to scott@iswebteam.net with subject of “honor wall” and the body of the email should explain why they should be honored.

I would like to welcome our newest sponsors:

Trail To Eagle smart phone app. Quickly look up advancement related items and easily track a scout’s progress along their trail to Eagle right from your smart phone.

Grand Prix Pinewood Derby tracker. The Hardware, Race Tower and Software was designed to 'Measure and Record' elapsed race times and calculate Finished Racing Positions for any model miniature race track. It also performs Record Keeping associated with all aspects of the race for each player.

Also, please don't forget our main sponsor ScoutManage.com a great way to track Cub, Boy Scout and Venture Crew advancement online.

On top of all of the updates on InsaneScouter, a number of updates have been done to my other site RoadCEO.com. Please go check it out, I do blog their about camping and the outdoors. You can also find campgrounds and tourist attractions all over the nation.

Lastly, I am looking for new clients to tutor in computers anything from the basics for Grandma all the way up to advanced website management. My going rate is $15 an hour, but is negotiable. Additionally, if you know anyone who has a website that would like help with the day to day tasks involved in running the site, please have them contact me.

Thanks for reading... You all are true Insane Scouters!

How To Fight A Fish
An angler (he didn't deserve the title!) whom I once met on New York's famous Beaverkill River had just caught a 3-pound Rainbow Trout on tackle that would have made any fly-fisherman cry. His worm-baited hook was tied to a leader of about 15-pound-test, on a fish line too heavy to be called anything but "rope." His rod was a two-handed salt-water deal good for big Tuna; his reel could have held enough legitimate Trout line to encircle the world...

As each paragraph is read, the appropriate prop is displayed and moved across stage. At closing, all props are brought back and placed together as final paragraph is read, by all boys together. Costuming would add interest, but is not necessary. NARRATOR: Here’s a fact that we should all face, A trait of the whole human race, To long to be...

Space Derby02
Human beings are always working toward goals, either consciously or subconsciously. The skillful use of this built-in capability is one of the characteristics of an effective leader. A person who has not set a specific goal will frequently tend to move toward whatever is uppermost in his mind, even though it may be a negative goal and not at all the kind of target he would set intentionally. Failure can even become a goal when a person has this foremost...

Training
One of the first questions that new leaders ask is: "What am I supposed to do?" But an equally important question in the mind of new leaders is "How do I do it?" This is where training comes in. Training shows new leaders how to do their jobs and allows for an interchange of ideas with more-experienced leaders. Every Cub Scout deserves qualified, trained leaders who will provide him with the best program possible, the way it is intended. Trained leaders...

General Stuff
1. ***Always*** have more prepared than you need. Make a lesson plan for your meeting, then add one or two items, just in case. This is much like having a Plan B, but a plan B may not be sufficient if the boys finish everything you had planned and there's still 15 minutes before the parents arrive. You do *not* want to be running around the house trying to figure what to do next. You haven't really known fear until...

Thoughts to Ponder

On The Trail

Once a long time ago a hound was out with his master trailing a mountain lion. The hound came to a place where a fox had crossed the trail, and the hound decided to follow the fox instead of the lion.

A short time later, a rabbit crossed that of the fox, and again the hound changed direction. Why should he chase a fox when a rabbit might be easier to catch?

When the hunter finally caught up with his hound, the dog was barking at a small hole in the ground. The hound had brought to bay a field mouse instead of a mountain lion.

Well, how about you? Have you set out on a trail to achieve your ambition? Are you able to follow it, or are you sidetracked by easier trails that cross it from time to time?

Don't be like that hound. Find out what it takes to achieve your ambition, and then get started. The best way to achieve anything in life is to set a true course for it and then stick to that trail.
