You Are My Hero Buttons

Author:  GSLC

We all have many people in our lives that we admire, dad, mom, teacher, Scout leader etc. This
month would be the perfect time to let that person know how much they are appreciated and
looked up to. Present them with a “You Are My Hero” button and put a smile on their face!

Wooden badges (craft stores have all shapes and sizes)
Acrylic paint
Sponge and paint brushes
Water to rinse brushes in
Paper plates for palette
Paper towels
Bar pins
Contact cement
Stickers, if desired
Clear varnish (Optional)

Step 1: Paint button solid color using sponge brush.
Step 2: Add small detail with small paint brush.
(To make dots, dip blunt end of paint brush in paint. Wipe off
end of brush each time you dip to get more even dots.
Step 3: Let dry thoroughly.
Step 4: For a shiny finish, use a sponge brush to apply clear varnish.
Be careful, if you use some types of pens the varnish will
cause them to bleed!
Step 5: Apply thin coat of contact cement to the back of the button
where the bar pin will be placed.
Step 6: Apply thin coat of contact cement to the bar pin.
Step 7: Allow contact cement to dry and is touchable.
