Akela Arrow Of Light Ceremony

Setting: Scout leader dressed in Indian outfit as Akela, standing or sitting by a ceremonial fire.

Akela: I am Akela, Chief of the Webelos tribe. My mother was Kind Eyes. My father was the son of the sun in the sky. His name ... Arrow of Light, who now lives with the great council above. They have summoned me here tonight to honor one of our Webelos Scouts. Will (name of scout) and his parents come and join me by the council fire.

When I was a young man of Bobcat age, I went on many short trips into the forest with my father, Arrow of Light. I learned many things by following the trail of the wolf. I learned to track and hunt food and the best places to rest. You also have followed the Wolf trail and earned your award.

When I was older, I traveled higher up the mountain with my father. He showed me how to follow the trail of the bear. I learned more difficult tasks, just as you did to earn your Bear badge.

My father, Arrow of Light, then taught me the speech and calls of the Webelos tribe, and I became a young brave. I was called upon to use all the skills I had learned in tracking the Wolf and the Bear. I grew in knowledge and strength until one day my father, Arrow of Light, came to me and told me it was time for me to prove myself. I had to climb to the top of the mountain, a long and difficult journey. I had to go alone with only my bow and arrow.

When I returned, I had earned my eagle feather and my father rejoiced with me at my success.

You too have completed a difficult journey through the Cub Scout program. You have earned many awards, but tonight we are here to honor you with the Arrow of Light award, the highest award you can earn in Cub Scouting.

At this point Akela presents the boy with his Arrow of Light award. If this Webelos Scout is graduating into a troop, Akela can introduce the Scoutmaster and bridge him into the troop. Any graduation tokens can be presented at this time.
