Bert Adams BSA Summer Camp

This BSA camp was one that was recommended to us by our readers. Bert Adams has consistently been listed as one of the best scout camps in the United States by Boys Life and Scouting Magazines. The camp is made up of over 1,300 acres and is located just outside of Atlanta, GA.  Its best-in-class facilities include an air-conditioned dining hall, swimming pool, rifle, and shotgun ranges and permanent platform tents, many with electricity. You can earn any from more than 60 merit badges offered at the camp. Some of the camp allows you to have WiFi access too. Winter camp is also available (for BSA and Venturers), for 5 days and 4 nights in December. 

The camp’s website is https://www.campbertadams.org/. Bert Adams Scout Camp is located at 218 Scout Road, Covington, Georgia 30016. Covington, Georgia is 35 miles to the East of Altlanta via I-20. Its GPS coordinates are 33.477504N,  83.851953W.

 

Summertime temperatures in the area generally rise to near 90 degrees and fall to 70 or so during the night. Wintertime highs average in the low to mid-50s and fall close to freezing overnight. Most campsites have tents on a platform with cots in it and electricity is provided. Dining is provided in a central A/C dining hall.

 

 

Bert Adams summer camp offers the chance to earn over 60 merit badges, including Archaeology, Archery, Astronomy, Canoeing, Chess, Climbing, Cooking, Crime Prevention, Cycling, Emergency Preparedness, Environmental Science, Fishing, Forestry, Geocaching, Geology, Indian Lore, Kayaking, Leatherwork,Lifesaving, Motorboating, Orienteering, Photography, Pioneering, Pottery, Rifle, Shooting, Robotics, Rowing, Search & Rescue, Shotgun Shooting, Small Boat, Sailing, Soil & Water Conservation, Space Exploration, Wilderness Survival, and Woodcarving. Also, it’s easy to get to all 1,411 acres of Bert Adams by bicycle. Scouts and leaders are encouraged to bring helmets and bikes to ride between classes and activities. Bert Adams Scout Camp was built to create a summer camping program that is fun, adventurous, and an incredible learning experience with modern facilities. 

 

 

The cost of the camp is $320 per Scout for Summer camp. If you are a leader for Summer camp the cost is $180. Winter camp is $200 per Scout. If you are a leader Winter camp is $100. Provisional (Scouts without their troop) Scouts can register for the Summer program and the cost for them is $360. Camping is offered for Cub Scouts and Families to use on some selected weekends during the Spring, Summer, and Fall.
