Deluxe Tours in New Mexico

By: Posted On: 2013-01-25

Last week, we looked at the exciting Deluxe Tours we offer in Colorado. Now this week we are going to take a look at the equally exciting Deluxe Tours in New Mexico. Again, these are the middle priced tour options that we offer.

Deluxe Adventure

The first option is our 1 night Deluxe Adventure tour. You will have a mid-morning rendezvous with your Blue Sky Adventures professional tour guide at the Albuquerque International airport. We will be waiting for you when you walk off the plane and have you on your way within 45 minutes of arrival with your custom Blue Sky Adventures Nalgene water bottle in hand and filled with chilled water! Your tour guide will be with you all day to make sure everything is fun and happens as it is supposed to and will bring New Mexico “alive” with stories of local legends, history and culture. Your tour guide is the difference maker on a Blue Sky tour compared to anything you can do yourself!

Next will be lunch at Blake’s LotaBurger, a tasty New Mexico tradition. Try the green Chile cheeseburger with a milkshake-it’s a local favorite! After lunch, we visit the National Atomic Museum. Learn about the Manhattan Project and see replicas of the bombs that ended World War II. See the plane that dropped the bomb and climb into the control tower of the first nuclear submarine. This is a cool place for sure!!

Then we visit historic Old Town Albuquerque, established in 1706 and the heart of the Wild West in its day. See Native American artists at work, walk through the historic Plaza which has been under the rule of 5 different countries and poke around in the local stores and historic and cultural sites. This is a real taste of the Southwest!

Here is the highlight of your day and of your trip-- A breathtaking ride on the world’s longest aerial cable car to the 11,000-foot summit of Sandia Peak. At the summit of Sandia Peak, we will hike about a mile along the mountain ridge to the “Stone Hut” built in the 1930’s by the Civilian Conservation Corps. This is a fantastic hike with unparalleled vistas of the Rio Grande Valley and it provides a great way to quickly acclimate to the effects of higher elevations. What a great way to help get ready for the rigors of your Philmont trek!

Check-in at the beautiful Marriott Pyramid hotel in Albuquerque (indoor/outdoor pool, two hot tubs, gift shop, computer center, fitness center, game room, ping pong, basketball, and board games) where the fun doesn’t stop! Dinner is good food and lots of it! An “all you can eat” buffet with soft serve ice cream and all the toppings! Pick up those last minute items you need at Target, Lowes, Walgreens, and other stores, all of which are within walking distance of the hotel. Spend the evening pool side, in the exercise room, in the game room, in the computer room or play board games, ping pong or basketball with your crew members and other Scouts from all over the country---this is some Scout trip! Check out the Blue Sky TV channel in your room for the movie of the night.

Wake up to a hot, all you can eat, full breakfast buffet at hotel-waffles, eggs, sausage, bacon, Danish, cereal, juice, and fresh fruit! Eat fast as we have a 6:30 AM departure on the Blue Sky Express Shuttle with arrival at Philmont by 10:00 AM.

Deluxe Plus Adventure

The second option is our 2 Night Deluxe Plus tour. We will pick up at the Albuquerque International within 30 minutes of arrival and transport to the Albuquerque Marriott Pyramid hotel. Get your custom Blue Sky Adventures Nalgene water bottle! Check in to the beautiful Marriott Pyramid hotel in Albuquerque where there’s lots to do (pool, two hot tubs, gift shop, computer center, fitness center, game room, ping pong, basketball, board games). Spend the afternoon poolside or in the game room or play board games, ping-pong or basketball with your crew and other Scouts from all over the country---this is some Scout trip!

If you arrive early enough, grab some lunch on your own at any number of popular restaurants within easy walking distance. Pick up those last minute items you need at Target, Lowes, Walgreens, and others, all of which are within easy walking distance of the hotel.  Have a bite to eat at a number of popular restaurant choices also within walking distance. Dinner at the hotel is good food and lots of it! An “all you can eat” buffet with soft serve ice cream and all the toppings for dessert! Check out the Blue Sky TV channel for movies every night in your room.  Hot, all you can eat, full breakfast buffet at hotel-waffles, eggs, sausage, bacon, Danish, juice, cereal, fresh fruit and more!

On day 2, you will have an early morning rendezvous with your Blue Sky Adventures professional tour guide at the hotel. Your tour guide will be with you all day to make sure everything is fun and happens as it is supposed to and will bring New Mexico “alive” with stories of local legends, history and culture. Your tour guide is the difference maker on a Blue Sky tour compared to anything you can do yourself!

After breakfast, we depart the hotel and head to Tent Rocks to experience Kasha-Katuwe Tent Rocks National Monument located on the Cochiti Pueblo, home of the Cochiti Indian tribe.  You will hike through a slot canyon surrounded by cone shaped volcanic formations that resemble tee pee tents and other spectacular geological formations. The trail climbs over 600 feet to a mesa offering excellent views of the Sangre de Cristo, Jemez, and Sandia mountain ranges.  This is a great, hands on Scout activity!

Next we will have lunch at Blake’s LotaBurger, a tasty New Mexico tradition.

After your visit to Tent Rocks, take a trip to the top of Sandia Peak; a breath taking ride on the world’s longest aerial cable car to the 11,000 foot mountain peak.
