Lake of the Ozarks Scout Reservation

This BSA camp was one that was recommended to us by our readers. Some of the pictures in this article were provided by one of our readers. According to the Scouting website, the Scout reservation is located on the Lake of the Ozarks Osage Arm at mile marker 44 near Laurie, Missouri. In spectacular natural beauty and extremely rocky terrain, the Lake of the Ozarks Scout Reservation boasts 450 acres and a mile and one-half of shoreline. The Ozarks Scout Reservation is the camping home of the Great Rivers Council, featuring Camp Hohn - an over 50-year-old Scouts BSA camp, and a Cub Scout camping facility that is under development and has yet to be named. Hohn plays host to our Scouts BSA Summer Camp program, Project C.O.P.E., Climbing, and Sail Master program,  thirteen scenic campsites for year-round use, and a state of the art pool and our recently opened Invention Lab. The Cub facility will host our Cub Resident camping programs and offer campsites, program facilities, aquatics activities, lodges, a dining hall and more.

Summertime temperatures make it into the upper 80s and fall into the mid-60s overnight. Scouts are housed in canvas tents on wooden platforms.  The camping program of the Great Rivers Council is a patrol feeding camp for your meals while here.  Our food service department will deliver your food for each meal and you will prepare it at your campsite.  There will be two camp-wide feeds during your stay that the camp staff will prepare, but your youth will prepare all other meals at your campsite.  They do not have a dining hall.

The Lake of the Ozarks Scout Reservation offers facilities and equipment available for unit use and the Kit Carson Trail. This eight-mile-long perimeter trail winds through the rolling hills and along the bluff overlooking the Lake. Each summer sees over a thousand Scouts and Scouters participate in our summer camp programs; fall and winter bring district camporees and spring welcomes more camporees, Cub camping weekends, our Sons of Daniel Boone Rendezvous, and the  Nampa-Tsi Lodge fellowship weekends.

The camp also features the world-class Sinquefield Invention Lab and program hall.  The lab features state-of-the-art equipment such as laser engravers, 3-D printers, a computer lab, a CNC router, a unique woodworking shop and so much more!  The Lake of the Ozarks Scout Reservation is the only Scout camp in the country to offer a program designed to stretch a young person's mind and creativity in developing an idea, designing the concept, and then creating the project.  We offer programs year-round in the lab with trained and qualified staff for Scout units and other community groups.

The 2020 camper fees are $260.00 Adult fees are $120.00 in 2020 Second Week Half-Price.  Any Scout who wishes to attend camp for a second week may do so at half-off the standard camp price ($140.00). Prices and information is the latest information I could find about this Boy Scout Camp. The $120.00 Adult Leader fee is designed to cover the cost of meals during camp, a camp patch, a T-shirt, and facilities usage. There is a fee of $8.00 per meal for leaders or guests who do not attend camp all week. National BSA policy requires two (2) registered adult leaders for all Scouting activities, including long-term camp and field trips out-of-camp. Each unit must have at least two adult leaders in attendance. Small units may want to make arrangements with another unit to share campsites and leadership responsibilities. Please let the Council Office know if you need assistance with that process. Through the generosity of the Friends of Scouting a limited number of camperships are available to help boys in need of financial assistance. The deadline for applying for a campership is April 10, 2020, and all camperships are based on the full camp fee ($280). Early requests are necessary to ensure the equitable distribution of available funds. The amount of the campership given to each Scout will vary based on economic need, but in nearly all circumstances will not exceed 50% of the price of camp. Scouts receiving camperships are not eligible for the Camper Savings discount.
