A lot of the campouts I did with the Scouts were to places that have no facilities, no water, tables, bathroom... nothing. This meant we had to bring everything in and take everything out. In this brief post just wanted to point out different kind of containers for transporting water from home to the campsite.

My favorite types of water containers are like the navy blue one in the picture. It holds 5 gallons of water and when laid down on a table it has a valve that can be open and closed easily. Makes it nice for cooking and cleaning up around camp. I find the full size (the on in picture holds 2 gallons) version of the orange igloo with the push button to fill water bottles and cups with water and powder mixed drinks. Providing all this really seems to help keep the kids hydrated here in the desert.

I find the collapsible soft plastic water jugs, like the one pictured on the left to be good for around camp. However, you have to be careful as they get punctured easily. The nice thing is they fold up small and are easy to transport.

I don't personally care that much for the “gas” can type water jugs like the like blueish green one. I don't really know why. My sister likes this type the best.

It should be noted there are ways to purify water. Most of these techniques are meant for small amounts of water when in the backcountry. There are many methods, but they generally break down into either being filtered or chemical treatment … well could also be a combo of both. As this post is not on purifying, I will not elaborate more now. If you would like me to do a post on this topic let me know.

Please make comments below on how you like to transport water to camps that do not provide drinking water.
