What is brave? Is it standing up for what you believe, maybe protecting yourself, or defending your country? The best answer I heard from a Scout happened to be a Webelos who said, “Just saying no” to drugs. Maybe it's letting others know that senseless violence and theft are wrong? Maybe, just maybe, it recognizes there are many beliefs out there some Christian and others with their own beliefs, so would it be brave to strongly and proudly belief in your own beliefs but at the same time respect and understand someone else, even if they may be different then your own?

We are all different but also have so many things in common. Friends can be friends, even if they don’t agree 100% on everything and they can respect and understand where the other person is coming from. Isn’t that part of being friendly, courteous, and kind?

With that said, may we kindly ask that you help support InsaneScouter and our years of hard work by joining Knapsack for just $36 a year and help us continue to maintain and improve our amazing resources? https://insanescouter.org/p/5875/0/Knapsack.html

My earliest memories of Scouting were my older brother being a Cub Scout in the late 1940s with his trusty little hatchet and Boy’s Life magazines. I do remember his Lion badge for some reason (obviously not the current Lions). A few years later, after a presentation at school, I proudly came home and announced to my mother that I was going to be a Brownie, and she quickly responded that I was not, as she had had to work too hard to get my brother through Cubs.  (We were a military family and had moved just about the time ......

Ever since news circulated of Canadian Scout Quinn Callander’s idea to create “ear savers” to help doctors and nurses at the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, Scouts in the Boy Scouts of America have been emulating the effort in their communities. Scouts use a 3D printer to make the “ear savers, ” which are polymer pieces situated behind a person’s head and attached to face-covering straps. They alleviate pressure to one’s ears, making the face-covering more comfortable to wear for a long time. Computer-generated plans dictate to the 3D printer how to robotically print a digital design into ......

Liberty Bell doorknob hangers from 1952. In 1952, an army of Scouts — all too young to vote themselves — launched an unprecedented campaign to get out the vote. They added crepe-paper streamers and homemade “Vote” signs to their bicycles. They went block by block delivering 30 million Liberty Bell-shaped doorknob hangers that read “Today’s Youth Counts on You. Use Your Freedom to Vote.” They pestered their parents to vote, offered to babysit neighbors’ children so moms and dads could head to the polls, and formed mock picket lines in crowded shopping areas — all in an effort to fight what Scouting ......

Just like when you bake a cake, you need ingredients to start a campfire. First, you need heat. That comes from matches. Then you need oxygen. As long as you’re lighting a fire outside (and you’re on Earth), oxygen is all around you. Last, you need fuel. That’s where tinder, kindling, and firewood come into play. Striking a Balance Starting a fire isn’t as simple as holding a match close to a piece of firewood. You have to build your fire slowly using tinder, kindling, and logs. Tinder is anything that burns quickly after you light it. Think of this ......
