Some people watch their favorite characters on screen. Others become them. A former Venturer from Southern California is giving back to the program by starting a cosplay Venturing crew, blending her self-proclaimed “nerdery” with her professional experience in costume design at Disneyland and beyond. Caitlin Kagawa grew up in Scouting — at first watching her older brother enjoy the program and then joining Venturing as soon as she turned 14. She was elected crew president, served on staff at the 2005 National Jamboree, and earned the Venturing Silver Award (the program’s highest honor until the Summit Award debuted in 2014). ......

Embarking on outdoor adventures has always been a part of Girl Scouts’ DNA. Many of the badges the first Girl Scouts earned were tied to learning and refining outdoor skills and becoming environmental stewards (Foot Traveler badge, Animal Kingdom badge), and that hasn't changed in our more than 100-year history. Although the COVID-19 pandemic has kept so many of us homebound, as Girl Scouts we’ve found new ways to connect with the great outdoors and one another. We’ve spent time in our backyards, earned outdoor art badges, and even taken virtual national park tours! Now, with warmer weather and longer ......

A supplemental meeting plan theme called Under the Sea was provided by BSA a few years ago. For more ideas for use with this theme, see then end of this post. Here is how the BSA plan suggests tying together this history-based theme with the value of courage. The oceans are the last unexplored frontiers on Earth. It takes courage to venture into undiscovered territory. Courage is also doing what is right regardless of the consequences. This month let us take our Cub Scouts under the oceans to explore and do what is ......

Dear Eagle scouts of this sub or for those that have worked an eagle project. I am searching for an idea for an eagle project. I'm looking for an idea that is relatively cheap as I plan to do a fundraiser for it. I'd also been looking for one that isn't just putting mulch and gravel in a trail. I want to do something that is conservation-related as there is a lot of parks near me. My troop is also pretty young as I am 14 and one of the oldest in my troop so keep that in mind. Any suggestions ......

Many states are lifting social distancing restrictions and permitting meetings of up to 25 people. Is anyone out there planning activities for summer? E.g. fishing, bike rodeo, or field games? I'm looking for activities to keep the scouts somewhat involved until the fall. Safety is a top priority for me, so any activity would need to be outdoors and limit scout-to-scout contact. Hikes and bike rides seem like a good bet. Ball sports are probably a no go. submitted by /u/Dont_Call_it_Dirt [link] [comments]...
