Please share this newsletter with your Scouting friends.

InsaneScouter Information

Greetings Scouter's! Welcome to the June issue of the InsaneScouter newsletter.

Prayers

Tornadoes in Texas and Oklahoma have caused massive destruction and left many injured and homeless. Thousands of people, including Scouts, and Scouters, have been affected by these disasters. We would like to thank all the Scouts and Scouters who are helping provide basic needs to as many of those affected as possible. We salute you! We ask that you pray for those effected.

The Pasta Shoppe Fundraising

The Pasta Shoppe has an amazing fundraising program that could generate funds for your unit and Scouts. I would like to welcome them back as a one of our great sponsors.

Briefly here is what they offer: Our fundraising program is simple and effective. There are two ways your group can sell Fun Pasta: Brochure Sales + Online Sales: Your participants will sell from a colorful brochure and also with an online link.

Boy Scouts approve plan to accept openly gay boys

The Boy Scouts of America threw open its ranks Thursday to gay Scouts but not gay Scout leaders - a fiercely contested compromise that some warned could fracture the organization and lead to mass defections of members and donors.

Of the roughly 1,400 voting members of the BSA's National Council who cast ballots, 61 percent supported the proposal drafted by the governing Executive Committee. The policy change takes effect Jan. 1.

BSA Stand Up Paddleboarding Award

The BSA Stand Up Paddleboarding award introduces Scouts to the basics of stand up paddleboarding (SUP) on calm water, including skills, equipment, self rescue, and safety precautions. This award also encourages Scouts to develop paddling skills that promote fitness and safe aquatics recreation. For more details http://www.scouting.org/scoutsource/OutdoorProgram/Aquatics.aspx

Scouts Canada Survivorman Challenge

I came across this challenge and it sounds cool and thought some of you might want to implement it in your own units.

Scouts Canada has long been known for preparing youth for leadership roles and for helping them gain knowledge, skills, and outdoor expertise through experiential, hands-on learning. We are excited to announce a partnership with Les Stroud, Canadian filmmaker and survival expert, to take the Venturer Outdoorsman Award program to new heights, while introducing a new challenge for Rovers. Scouts Canada feels Les is a strong role model for youth, and have now created the Scouts Canada Survivorman Challenge for Venturers and Rovers. For full details http://www.scouts.ca/sites/default/files/files/survivorman.pdf

Thanks all for your amazing support and dedication to Scouting. I hope InsaneScouter and this newsletter has helped you out in some way with running your units. Until next month please pass this newsletter on to all your Scouting friends. Thanks a million!

Dinosaurs In The Garden
The dinosaurs were quite brave. They strutted over the light dusting of snow on the sidewalk and approached the food. They cast darting glances from side to side, sometimes observing the black, four-legged mammals that lay on the grass and other times eyeing suspiciously the two-legged mammal that stood, partially concealed, behind a shadowy screen. With quick motion, the dinosaurs captured morsels of dog food in their beaks and flew away. The particular dinosaurs I speak of are commonly referred...

You can learn a lot about life by watching insects. Have you ever taken time to watch a colony of ants? They are always busy, working together, doing what needs to be done without complaining. Meanwhile, the grasshopper wasted its time, playing and singing in the long grass. In the fall, when...

Thoughts to Ponder

Flag Day

Who can tell me what day falls on June 14th? That's right it's Flag Day. Another question, why do we celebrate Flag Day on June 14th.

Because it was on that day in 1777 we got our first official US Flag. The Continental Congress which made the laws in those days, specified that the flag would have 13 stripes, alternating red and white, and 13 white stars on a blue field.

But that was all the description they gave. If you remember your flag history, the result was that a lot of different flags appeared during the Revolutionary War. You can see pictures of some of them in your handbook. It wasn't until 1912, 135 years later, that the flag became standardized.

It's not very important that you know a lot about our flags history. What is important though, is that you are aware that our flag was born very soon after we became an independent nation, and that millions of men have fought for the flag as our symbol of freedom.

That's why I hope that if your family owns a US Flag, you will fly it proudly on Flag Day this year. In that way, we can show our pride as Americans and our determination to live as free men.
