Theme Midway - Advice on Games

Author:  GSLC

On a cold winter den meeting night, you might try some of these ideas
to keep the boys warm and dry.

At www.printactivities.com, you can print out a variety of word search
puzzles, dot-to-dots, and mazes.

Information on how to play board games can be found at www.boardgamescentral.
com. Old and new games can be found on this site, along with the instructions on how
to play games such as checkers, Monopoly, Life, and dominos.

At www.library.thinkquest.org, you will find a variety of pioneer
games such as Drop the Handkerchief, Blind Man’s Bluff, Knuckle
Bones, Hunt the Shoe, Hide and Seek, and Marbles.

At www.familyfun.go.com, there is a list of winter games such as
Jump Snow Hurdles, Rope Tow, Flag in a Snow Stack, and Strike Out.
What about a rousing game of ping pong or darts? Also, there’s bowling,
or card games such as Go Fish, Crazy Eights, or even Bingo.

Have you considered looking in previous pow wow books for ideas on games? There are several
game ideas given each month in the pow wow book as well as in the program helps.
(Pow Wow books are available in the InsaneScouter download section, you will need an account for this)

Or you could use your imagination and creativity to create your own game.
Boys love to play games that require remembering where
things are. You could get pictures of Cub Scout symbols, or of
things of nature. Make sure you get two copies of each. But and
paste them on colored paper, turn them over, mix them up, and you
have a memory game.

Don’t forget to teach the boys that playing by the rules is important.
Teach them that winning is not necessarily the important part
of playing the game, but that having fun should be what is the most
important part of game playing.
