Charles Babbage

SUPPLIES: Flashlights, music, microphone

SCENE: Turn off the lights and have a few Cub Scouts shining the flashlights around the room like search lights. Start the music. Have it start loud then soften when you begin to speak. The music can be a theme from shows like Space Odyssey, Star Wars, etc.

CUBMASTER: Many, many year's ago, Charles Babbage believed that he could build a machine that could handle a number of problems and print out the answers. He failed, but because of his ideas he inspired other inventors to build what he could only imagine. The computer was now born. Scouting was started many years ago by Baden-Powell. He believed that adults and boys could get together and accomplish many things. He had an idea and every one of us today are helping him keep his dream and ideas alive.

Let us all stand and say the Pledge of Allegiance.

(Turn on lights and turn the music off.)
