Through The Fire - A Crossover To Boy Scouts

SETUP: Two small fires burning with a path through them. Cubmaster and members to cross stand on one side while the scoutmaster stands on the other side of the fires.

SPEAKER: (name) Fire has two sides to its nature. On one side it provides light to see by and, heat to warm us and cook our food. On the other side, it can be a terrible destroyer taking our homes, our resources, even our lives.

People are not unlike the fire. In our nature, we can work hard to build ourselves, our community, and our world providing light to others and the warmth of friendship. On the other hand, we can be cruel, destroying the self-respect of others. Scouting is the part of the fire of people that is meant to build up and provide warmth to those around us.

Cub scouting is the preparatory phase, teaching right from wrong and instilling virtues like the love of God and country.

In 1st Corinthians, 13th chapter the 11th verse, we find "When I was a child, I spoke as a child, I understood as a child, I thought like a child, but, when I became a man, I put away childish things."

There comes a time in the cub scout's life when he simply can no longer be a cub scout. He must put away the trappings of cub scouts and put on the uniform of a boy scout.

You have reached this time. I, therefore, direct you to now leave the pack and cross through these flames to the future.

Forget not what you have learned as you follow the trail of the eagle, do not let the flames of those detractors around you burn away your desire to achieve or your belief in the good of mankind. Let these fires, instead kindle your flame of desire for the greatness of which you are capable of achieving.

Go now and begin the adventure of a lifetime.
