I love daylight saving time. I realize that it doesn’t actually add an hour of light to the day and that it probably doesn’t save energy, but I love summer evenings that last well after 9 p.m.

However, those summer evenings can play havoc with Eagle courts of honor. If you hold your ceremony in a room that’s flooded with natural light, you can have trouble dimming the lights enough to show a video, something many courts of honor include these days.

If you’re planning to use darkness to enhance your court of honor, be sure to visit the facility ahead of time (and at the same time of day as the ceremony) to make sure you can achieve your desired effect. You may be able to make accommodations—covering the windows, moving the screen to a different location, securing a brighter projector—or you may need to come up with an alternate plan. Either way, you won’t be blinded by the light.
