Let's play a little game. Gather 81 non-scouts into a large circle and place 31 Eagle Scouts inside the circle ; this circle connected to Scouting inside the circle. This second circle represents the 500 lawmakers in Washington represents Congress. Gather 294 more people into another circle and place 206 people. According to a July report by FoxNews, thirty-one of the one hundred-twelve-member US Congress holds the esteemed title of Eagle Scout. Also noteworthy, two hundred-six of Washington, D.C.’s five hundred lawmakers have some connection to Scouting, either as past scouts or adult volunteers. Alphabetically by state, here are the Congressional Eagle Scouts. Is your Senator or Representative among them? Alabama: Senator Jeff Sessions (R) Georgia: Rep. Sanford Bishop (D) Idaho: Senator Michael Carpo (R) Illinois: Representative Robert J. Dold (R) Indiana: Senator Richard G. Lugar (R) Mississippi: Senator Thad Cochran (R) Missouri: Representative Russ Carnahan (D) Representative Sam Graves (R) Nebraska: Senator Ben Nelson (D) New Jersey: Representative Christopher H. Smith (R) New Mexico: Senator Jeff Bingaman (D) New York: Representative Gary L. Ackerman (D) Ohio: Senator Sherrod Brown (D) Representative Steve Stivers (R) Oregon: Senator Jeff Merkley (D) Representative Greg Walden (R) Pennsylvania: Senator Patrick J. Toomey (R) Representative Mike G. Fitzpatrick (R) Representative Glenn W. “GT” Thompson (R) South Carolina: Representative Joe Wilson (R) Tennessee: Senator Lamar Alexander (R) Representative Jim Cooper (D) Representative Phil Roe, M.D. (R) Texas: Representative Louie Gohmert (R) Representative Jeb Hensarling (R) Representative Pete Sessions (R) Utah: Senator Mike Lee (R) Wyoming: Senator Michael B. Enzi (R) We all know Scouting teaches our young men a sense of self and a sense of community. Imagine with me, just for a moment, a country whose government is filled with Eagle Scouts. Although I’m sorely tempted, I will not post my opinions about the political impact that could make. (As an aside, I find it just a bit ironic that our President and Honorary Chairman of the BSA, did not bother to attend the 2011 Jamboree, sending pre-recorded remarks in his stead. Hmm….) I would love to read your comments though! Happy Scouting! Jen

From the Campground to the White House@Steve on 08/11/2011 and, noting that the 2011 jamboree was a world event in Sweden rather than the 2010 National...before I'd diss (where's the irony?) the current PotUS, I'd check on National Jamboree attendance of prior presidents.
In the spirit of cheerful service! From the Campground to the White House@Jen on 08/11/2011 Thank you @Steve for pointing out my mistake. It was in fact not the 2011 Jamboree he snubbed, it was the BSA's 100th anniversary celebration in Fort A.P. Hill, Virginia.
Additionally, this post is merely an effort to point out the Congressmen who are Eagle scouts. Females can not be Eagle Scouts, thus they were not included in my post. Had the post been about all scouting on Capitol Hill and not just Eagle Scouts in Congress, I might have included Barbara Mikulski (D-Md.) and Kay Bailey Hutchison (R-Texas), Jo Ann Emerson (R-Mo.) and Ellen O. Tauscher (D-Calif.).
(I was not "dis"sing PotUS, merely pointing out the fact that he chose not to attend the event, in favor of taping an appearance of a television show in NY. The irony here is that the leader of the free world chose to attend a talk show taping over a celebration of a group geared toward raising strong young men.) From the Campground to the White House@Meeta on 07/10/2012 Anyone from Nordjamb'75?The Nordic countries have htseod the World Jamboree once before. As a Denmark-Finland-Iceland-Norway-Sweeden cooperation in Lillehammer, Norway in 1975.15 000 scouts from more than 100 countries participated. Pluss 3 000 nordic scouts (leaders, rangers, rovers, senior scouts) as hard-working-staff. Should we arrange an informal get-to-gether for Nordjamb staff members sometime during the 22WSJ in Rinkaby?Pls contact Bjf8rn Svensen at or call me at + 47 95 72 17 51. I was one of the two norwegians at the Camp Committee. If this idea has some support, I may set up a website and a chat arrangement for former Nordjambers.
