Setting a date is a critical first step in planning an Eagle court of honor. Until you’ve set a date, you can’t confirm a location, nail down your presenters, and send out invitations.

But the date is important for another reason: It can greatly affect who shows up for the ceremony. A weekend date makes it easier for out-of-town guests to attend. Holding the ceremony on your troop’s meeting night ensures good participation by troop members. Forgetting to take into account competing community events can depress attendance.

When you’re setting a date, therefore, think carefully about who you’re most trying to involve. Then set a date that will ensure—not prevent—their participation.
