The new program is a good for new leaders coming into Cub Scouts. It lays out a lesson plan that is easy to follow and works on the model of 2 Den Meetings a month and 1 Pack meeting. If your Den meets more than twice a month then at the end of the year you will have to add additional items like World Conservation Patch, etc. The new program also assumes much of the requirements will be done at home. I have always found that if we do the requirements at Den meetings it got done and I could in good mind sign off on them for the boys, but that is my opinion and not offical BSA policy, just a suggestion. However, it actually gets ALOT more rank requirements done in the den, rather than at home, than the traditional Cub program. Or at least how I had seen it implemented. The new Cub program @Paula Hrbacek on 03/31/2011 As a former leader with 15 years in Cubs, Girl Scouts, Boy Scouts and Venture, I'm against meeting twice a month. Every Girl Scout troop I know that went to that schedule folded the next year. Tigers struggle to keep the program going after the Christmas/New Year holidays because once a child misses a month, it's hard to get them going again. Children with ADD and other learning disabilities need to have a regular schedule or else they forget and get confused. Meeting every week builds team work and a sense of security. |
