Hmmm.... Mules & Rivers

By: Posted On: 2010-04-11

This is another tale from my trip as a Scout to Philmont. For two or maybe it was three days we had two pack mule that joined us on our trail journey. A fair amount of that time I held on the rope of one of the muels. One of the things that amazed me the most is how that mule would wait till we got to a stream, and it was every stream to release his own yellow stream. In a way it was funny, in a way it was annoying how he stopped at every stream, and in another way it was just plain disgusting. I can tell you it was just plain out an eye opener to me on why we have to purify water from all natural water sources.

I am sure there are some of you out there that can tell me why the mule urinated in every stream, some of you may even be able to tell us what we could have done different to prevent it. And I hope you do so, at same time I also hope my tale can help you teach your Scouts and why natural water is not safe for consumption without being purified. I look forward to your own stories and thoughts.
